Hello Modern Quilters!
I have for you the tutorial for the plus block in sizes 6 1/2 inches and 12 1/2 inches. These blocks will be used to create sample quilts/quilt tops for our How to Make a Modern Quilt class on May 6 at A Nimble Thimble. If you can make a block - or a few blocks of either size for us, that would be great! I would like to have a sew day in April to prepare for the class if possible.
Without further ado, the Plus block:
Plus Block Tutorial
12.5 inch block
Fabric Cuts for a block where the plus sign is a print
fabric and the background is a solid:
From solid fabric (background), cut:
4 squares measuring 4.5 inches
4 rectangles measuring 2.5 x 4.5 inches
From print fabric (plus sign), cut:
1 square measuring 4.5 inches
4 rectangles measuring 2.5 x 4.5 inches
Putting the block together:
Sew the (4) 2.5 x 4.5 inch print blocks to the (4) 2.5 x
4.5 inch solid blocks lengthwise.
Press to the dark side.
It should become a 4.5 inch square.
Lay the 9 blocks out in the block pattern.
Sew each row together and press seams to
opposite sides so they will nest with blocks on the next row. Sew the rows together. Press seams to one side or open depending on
preference.
Finished block! (Thanks to Kat for reminding me to put the pictures in!)
